Wikipedia and the illusion of "can"

Yes, everyone can edit pages on on Wikipedia. That’s the reason teachers and professors still look down on it as a source of information (or at least pretend to).

But does everyone edit Wikipedia? No.  Out of all the people who use Wikipedia or have access to it, only a tiny fraction contribute.

“Can” does not equal “does.”

Anyone can get rich. Anyone can become an astronaut. Anyone can become a Christian. Anyone can do anything. Impossible is nothing. We hear this all the time.

The truth is, however, few do.

In other words, ability is nothing special. Accomplishment is.
