Last night as a group of us gathered around the barbecue, I realized I can get close to perfect right now.
We’d all pitched in. We had beef and vegetables on skewers. We had chicken covered in BBQ sauce. We had burgers. We even had salmon. And when one of the guys mentioned that he didn’t have any buns for his burgers, I offered to run up and get him my loaf of bread, along with some mayonnaise and mustard.
It wasn’t the food that made the difference. It was the community aspect. I realized then that I don’t need to wait to start these banquets. I can start them now. Or I realized I can at least start them a lot sooner than I assumed, at least practice.
