When you’re writing, it’s usually best to throw all your ideas onto the page, no matter how dumb they seem. Later when you’re editing, it’s usually best to cut ruthlessly, trimming anything that doesn’t stand out as amazing.
This is pretty common writing/editing advice. Write liberally, edit liberally.
I try to live the same way. I try new things whenever possible, trying not to filter ideas that sound dumb. During the editing stage, though, the part when I’m sharing the story with someone else, I try to cut ruthlessly, sharing only the details that align with who I am.
