The problem with being a Christian: Conversation with a Saudi student

“You Muslim?”

“No,” I said.

“You… what?”

I’m always a teacher in class. “What do you think?”

“Christian?”

I nodded.

“This bad.” He frowned with his lower lip.

I smiled. “Why?”

“You go to church? Every Sunday?”

“Yes,” I said, “but not here. It is… illegal here.”

His turn to nod. He knew.

“Muslim every day,” he said. “Go to Mosque every day. This good. Christian once a week.” He shook his head. “This not good. This… this very bad.”

I’ve got a long way to go, but I’m happy he sees the problem, can articulate it, and throws in some frequency vocab in the process.
