Their vocabulary list included the word. Naturally, someone had to ask. So I summoned my best teacher voice.
“Well, some people say being brave means not being afraid. But I think being brave just means doing scary things. When you do something scary, you’re brave. Like what are some scary things you could do?”
“Uh, uh… bungee jump,” said a student.
“Yes, bungee jumping. Bungee jumping is always scary. Being brave is bungee jumping anyway.” I continued, “What else is scary?”
“Hitting shark with stick,” said a boy to my left, motioning with his hands.
“Yes, hitting a shark with a stick would be pretty scary. Being brave is doing it anyway, especially if you do it to save someone from getting eaten by the shark. What else could you do that’s scary?”
