I’m super glad my parents taught me to speak without too pronounced an accent. I still think I have one, but I’ve been told it’s not too noticeable.
What I’d like to do now, though, is learn to imitate the Louisville, Kentucky accent. When I visit somewhere else and tell people I’m from Kentucky, they sometimes ask about the Kentucky accent.
I’d like to be able to share it with them.
To that end, I checked YouTube for some examples and found this series on the Kentucky accent. Through the videos, I’ve tried to pick out what makes the Kentucky accent different from other accents, especially other notable southern accents like a Texas or Virginia accents.
So far, I’ve found a few things. The funnest one at this point, though, continues to be the pronunciation for Louisville itself. 🙂
