[Update: These instructions are for PC, and Facebook has since made some changes. The basic idea is the same though.]
Have you ever posted a link on Facebook? If not, it’s time to start.
Find an amazing web page. An amazing web page might include but isn’t limited to any of the following:
- Funny pictures like this one of Darth
- How-To videos like this
- Useful websites like this
- Blog posts like this
Once you have something amazing, you’ll need to grab the link. Visit the page you want to link to. Click in your address box of your browser (this is toward the top of your browser. The link will start with “http://”.) The entire link should highlight when you click it, but if not, you’ll need to highlight it with your mouse. Once highlighted, push “Ctrl” and “c” at the same time. This copies the link.
Head over to your Facebook wall. Click inside the “What’s on your mind?” box. If you feel like writing about your link, go for it. Under this box are four little buttons with pictures on them. The one on the right is the link button (it says “link” when you hold your cursor over it). Click the link button.
A new box will open below the “What’s on your mind?” box. Click in the box that says “http://”. Now paste your link in the box by pushing “Ctrl” and “v” at the same time. Your link should appear in the box. If pictures are available, you can choose to include one in your post. Otherwise, select “No thumbnail”. Then click “Attach”.
At this point, your link is ready to go. If you’re happy with it, click “share” to share your link with all your friends on Facebook.
And that’s how you post a link to Facebook.
In case you haven’t guessed, I’m not explaining this to you because you need to learn how to post links on Facebook. My guess is that you either already know or could easily learn if you wanted to. I’m explaining this to coax you to post more links on Facebook.
I dream of a day when links, not stupid facebook quizes, fill my news stream. Will you help make that happen?
