Long division is one of those skills you learned in grade school that seems so rudimentary you never question its importance.
Do kids need to learn long division? Your gut response is, “Of course they do.”
But why?
Let me ask another way: do adults need to learn long division? Like if you didn’t know how to use a pencil and paper to find how many times 7 goes into 2,842, would you learn to do it?
Or consider it this way: when was the last time you actually divided that much (and didn’t check your work with a calculator)?
