Consumerism is all about either continuously consuming more or getting others to do that. Typical examples might include the fashion industry, Hollywood, television programming, and our interaction with each of these. It’s all over the place, though, especially in America.
Producerism is the opposite. Producerism is all about either continuously producing more or getting others to do that. There aren’t as many obvious examples of this because we don’t live in that world.
I’m not convinced that either by itself is good or bad, and I’m not convinced the entire system is the only option we have. But within the system, when one dominates to the exclusion of the other, I think that’s definitely bad. So, in our world where consumerism rules within the system, I advocate for producerism. The producers clearly win.
