I found an enlightening article on Wikipedia about cognitive biases.
In other words, it’s a list of ways your mind and my mind tend to misinterpret information.
I find it particularly interesting that not only do we fail in these specific areas, we fail in these areas consistently. One would think we could recognize the consistency, the problem with the thought patterns, and change our habits to think more accurately.
Ah, but most of us, you and me, don’t even know about these biases. According to AA, the first step in overcoming an addiction is admitting the problem. Maybe, but perhaps more accurately the first step is learning that the problem is in fact a problem.
That’s why I’m posting this. Maybe learning about these cognitive biases will help us realize our poorly our minds work in certain situations. Have a look:
