Right leg first

I put my daughter’s pants on, right leg first, for like two years.

And she’d always stick out her left leg first.

“How many times do we have to do this before she learns the right way with her right leg first?”

I remember thinking that exact thought.

It took two years to articulate that thought clear enough that it felt like I said it out loud in my brain.

Two years to build the momentum into that thought.

Before it was a thought, it was more a feeling like a mix-up. Then an annoyance. Then frustration.

Then finally, when I thought it through clearly enough, it hit me in that moment.

I could switch instead of her.

Two years is how long we had to do this before I learned the right way with her left pant leg first.
