The plan, as though there ever is one, was to take a month off from experiments in anticipation of next month. But then I got an idea, and I’m learning to do things while I want to (because it’s the only time I ever will), so I decided to dive in again.
For this experiment, I’m going to try to live with just 13 items in my wardrobe.
I thought of keeping this a secret so I could better gauge the reaction. I think part of this experiment will include the reaction I get from people who begin to notice I’m wearing the same clothes all the time.
I decided against going private on this one, though, because I like my readers, and I want all of you know what I’m actually thinking about.
So here are the items I’m choosing to wear exclusively:
- Pair of shoes
- Pair of jeans
- Pair of shorts
- Long sleeved shirt
- Undershirt
- Undershirt
- Underwear
- Underwear
- Pair of socks
- Pair of socks
- Coat
- Belt
- Watch
Thirteen works out to be a nice number. I also like the fact that I’m launching this on a Friday the 13th, which seems like another kick in the face of superstitions, which I like.
At this point, I think I’ll just run this for two weeks, maybe three if I push it once I get started. I figure, though, that if I can last two weeks, I can last indefinitely. Sure, I might get hit with a wedding or whatever and of course the seasons would affect the wardrobe as well, but two weeks should give a pretty good idea of what it’s like to live like this day to day.
I’m looking forward to it.
