Why I learned to cut my own hair, ditch textbooks, and enjoy carrot juice (but others didn't)

The answer is…

Encouragement.

Something made me so certain that I could, so certain that I wouldn’t fail, that I tried them.

  • Learning to cut your own hair is no big deal… except it takes guts. It takes guts to risk a lousy haircut if it doesn’t work out.
  • Learning to ditch textbooks is no big deal… except it takes guts. It takes guts to risk a lousy grade if it doesn’t work out.
  • Learning to enjoy carrot juice is no big deal… except it takes guts. It takes guts to risk lousy glass after lousy glass of flavor if the test doesn’t work out.

No one ever learns from never trying. But it takes guts to try. And to get that, it takes encouragement.

‘Tis for the lack of encouragement that many ne’er try.
