What if we stopped buying stuff?

What if you and I stopped buying new stuff? Forever?

What if, more conservatively, we switched to only replacing stuff once it wears out, one for one, not upgrading (maybe even downgrading)?

I think most Americans, at least, could probably do this for the rest of their lives and still never run out of stuff. But what would that process feel like? Who would benefit?

Personally, I’ve found that when I stop buying new stuff, I quickly begin to realize how useless my old stuff is. I’m like, “I can’t survive without the new stuff. This old stuff is no good now.”

And that’s just the point. Thanksgiving.
