Headed to Egypt in the middle of an uprising

If you didn’t know already, I’m vacationing in Egypt in two weeks. It’s one of those trips that’s hard to pass up, what with the pyramids and all.

But with less than two weeks to go before leaving, I hear the news: riots are breaking out, police stations are burning, demonstrators are setting speedboats loose on the Suez Canal.

It’s probably one of the more unstable countries in the area to visit right now. The way I think of it, though, the country lives off tourism, so surely it’ll be fairly safe still for tourists. I’m actually looking forward to avoiding some of the long lines I might have experienced if I went when the country looked more stable.

Thanks to my base in Saudi Arabia right now, I’ll be able to knock out the whole trip for a fraction of what it would cost for me to visit otherwise. Many of my friends here have visited as well, so they’re giving me some great pointers on where to go and what to do. Some of the guys who joined the program at the same time as me are going along too.

Like I said, 2013 is going to get crazy.
